Azerbaijan: court starts hearing on merits the case of "Intellectual Citizen" Centre

On June 13, the Nizami District Court of the Azerbaijani city of Ganja (Gandzha) began the consideration on the merits of the case opened against Gasan Guseinli, the head of the "Intellectual Citizen" Education Centre, who is accused of hooliganism.

Arzu Gakhramanov, a resident of Ganja, who is considered to be the victim, gave his evidence to the court.

"This man has again claimed that Gasan Guseinli blocked his path right in the street, attacked him, threatened, pushed him down onto the ground and stabbed with a knife," said Elchin Sadygov, a Guseinli's advocate.

According to the advocate, Gakhramanov is used for falsification of the criminal case against Guseinli. "We have documentary evidence that Arzu Gakhramanov had participated as a witness or 'victim' in a number of criminal cases. We'll present these documents to the court after the study of the evidence for the prosecution. Obviously, this man is a police agent used for fabrication of criminal cases," said Sadygov.
