Sochi residents complain to State Duma about asphalt factory

The asphalt factory was built in the protection zone of the Park "Southern Plantings"; and its operation causes a significant damage to the environment, state the locals, who signed an appeal to the Russian State Duma with a demand to stop the factory.

Let us remind you that the above factory was built in Sochi in 2013 in the area of the Olympic Park and in close proximity to the park "Southern Plantings" located in the Adler District. Already then, local residents protested against the construction thereof.

"At their meetings on June 12 and 14, about 20 local activists signed a petition to the State Duma demanding to stop the asphalt factory and to repair the sycamore and eucalyptus alleys of the park, destroyed in the course of Olympic construction," Igor Vasiliev, the leader of the local branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) and assistant to the State Duma Deputy Sergey Obukhov, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Oleg Khomyakov, an employee of the "Southern Plantings", said that the factory works around the clock.

Earlier, on May 28, 2013, the Adler District Court ruled to impose a fine on the factory for breaching the environmental legislation.
