Members of "Georgian Dream" and "UNM" welcome second round of mayoral election in Tbilisi

The second round of the mayoral election in Tbilisi represents a good sign for the political life of Georgia. It indicates the development of democracy in the country. This opinion has been expressed by Georgy Volsky, a member of the coalition "Georgian Dream", and Koba Khabazi, a member of the "United National Movement" Party. According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), candidates from the above two political parties are to take part in the second round of the mayoral election.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 15, Georgia voted at the elections to local self-administration bodies, including the mayoral election in Tbilisi and 11 other cities. The turnout reached 43.31% of voters.

14 persons were running for the position of Mayor of Tbilisi. However, none of the candidates succeeded in gaining more than 50% of the votes. The capital of Georgia will hold the second round of the elections. The candidates to take part in the second round are David Narmaniya (the coalition "Georgian Dream") with 46.12% of the votes gained in the first round, and Nikanor Meliya (the "United National Movement" Party) with 27.89% of votes.

According to Georgy Volsky, Georgia faces the situation, in which "there is no place for violence at elections, unlike under the previous government."

The member of the coalition "Georgian Dream" believes that in the future, the contradictions between the various political parties in Georgia will be "softened".

Koba Khabazi shares the opinion that the mayoral election in Tbilisi "has marked a turning point in the development of democracy."
