Defence appeals against arrest of Dagestani resident Ramazan Magomedov
The arrest of Ramazan Magomedov, a resident of Makhachkala, detained on suspicion of drug possession, has been challenged. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by advocate Murad Mallaev.
According to the Dagestani NGO "Pravozaschita" (Advocacy), on June 13, in Makhachkala, local resident Ramazan Magomedov was kidnapped and taken away to some unknown destination. On June 14, it was reported that Ramazan Magomedov was detained on suspicion of illegal possession of drugs. The detainee's advocate claims the body of his client bears obvious signs of torture.
Murad Mallaev has also noted that the investigator had granted the motion to conduct a forensic medical examination of Ramazan Magomedov.
According to Ruslan Aliev, an advocate of the Dagestani Advocates' Chamber, the detainees, in respect of whom no form of pre-trial restriction has been determined, are kept in custody at IVS (temporary detention facility), and then, when they get a status of arrested persons, they are to be transferred to SIZO (pre-trial prison). According to the advocate, although the law requires conducting a medical examination of arrested persons immediately after their transfer of SIZO, in fact, in Russia, the procedure "is only formal".
