On June 16-22, one person was killed and another one wounded in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from June 16 to June 22, 2014, the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus claimed one human life, and one person was wounded. These are the results of the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

Attacks on law enforcers

On June 22, in an overpass in the Lenin District of Grozny, an employee of the patrol-and-post service (PPS) stopped a suspicious man and asked him to show the content of his bag and present the ID. While the policeman was checking the bag, the man made a shot in his head. The 39-year- old policeman died on the spot.

Explosions and terror acts

On June 10, in one of the households in the village of Kyzyl-Yurt, Khabez District of Karachay-Cherkessia, a hand grenade detonated. On the same day, a 24-year-old resident of the village was brought to the intensive care unit with a diagnosis of "amputation of the left arm". As established by the police, the young man was wounded by the above grenade explosion. A criminal case was opened against him under Part 1, Article 222, of the Russian Criminal Code (illegal circulation of firearms and ammunition).

On June 19, in the Tarumov District of Dagestan, during an engineering survey, policemen found a bucket on the road shoulder full of sealing foam with wires spreading outside. The traffic was suspended; and the explosive experts who came to the place confirmed that the bucket was an improvised explosion device (IED) and neutralized it.

Detentions

On June 17, two residents of the village of Sagopshi, Malgobek District of Ingushetia, were detained by law enforcers. One of the detainees is Djamaleil Gandaloev, his relatives said; the second one was Bulguchev. According to Gandaloev's wife, an IED was planted on her husband. His brother reported that prior to take Djamaleil away, law enforcers forced him to sign some paper. Both detainees were brought to the Malgobek ROVD (District Interior Division).

On June 18, Murat Kunashev (or Kuashev, according to other sources) was detained at his home in the village of Dugulubgey, Baksan District of Kabardino-Balkaria, after a search that was conducted by several dozens of armed men. After searching the house for several hours, they stated that they had found a grenade, and took Murat to the Baksan ROVD. Later, when Murat met an advocate, he wrote a statement that he had confessed to the police under torture.

On June 19, the republic's MIA reported the detention of a villager in Dugulubgey, who, according to law enforcers, in the course of a search of his house rendered resistance and ran out of the house, trying to escape, but was caught. When he was inspected personally, policemen found an RGD-5 grenade, a fuse and 20 cartridges on him.

In the evening on June 18, in Makhachkala, law enforcers detained Batyr Charyev, born in 1986. According to the police, he is suspected of aiding militants and illegal arms circulation. Batyr Charyev's relatives suggest that law enforcers had planted cartridges during a search in the detainee's house.

Kidnappings

On June 20, at about midday, in the village of Uzunotar, Khasavyurt District, unidentified persons kidnapped Ilmudin Gasanov, when he was driving his Hyundai minivan across the village. At the exit from the village the van was blocked by an armoured Gazel van. Masked people jumped out of the van, dragged Ilmudin out and took him away. According to eyewitnesses, the van departed toward Makhachkala.
