HRC "Memorial" challenges court's dismissal of complaint against demand for registration as foreign agent
Yesterday, on June 23, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" filed an appeal against the decision of the Zamoskvorechye District Court of Moscow to dismiss the HRC's complaint against the prosecutors' demand for registration as a foreign agent. This was reported by Alexander Cherkasov, Chairman of the Board of the HRC "Memorial".
"Until present, it is still difficult to speak of the period for the consideration (of the complaint). I cannot say anything," the human rights defender told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The HRC "Memorial" is a part of the international historical, educational and human rights organization "Memorial", and it is engaged in protection of human rights, including in the Caucasus.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, after an unscheduled inspection held in March 2013, the Moscow Prosecutor's Office demanded that the HRC "Memorial" should register as a foreign agent. The organization treats as incorrect the conclusions of the prosecutors who found its activities to allegedly be of political nature. Thus, the HRC "Memorial" had challenged the prosecutors' demand at the Zamoskvorechye District Court of Moscow. However, on May 23, 2014, the Court dismissed the complaint filed by the human rights organization.
