Zverevo residents complete their protest march
Today, residents of the city of Zverevo have finished their protest march to Rostov-on-Don launched on June 2, after officials promised to consider their demands.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the reason for the protest was in the freezing by city officials of benefits paid to citizens as partial compensation of housing and communal bills. By June 10 the townspeople covered on foot about 65 kilometres and organized a series of solo pickets en route.
Today in Rostov-on-Don, an initiative group of three Zverevo residents had a meeting with Sergey Trubnikov, the chief federal inspector for Rostov Region of the office of the plenipotentiary envoy of the Russian President in the Southern Federal District (SFD), and his deputy.
"We talked for about two hours. Trubnikov looked in detail through our documents and promised to send requests on our issue to the housing inspection, the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services and the Prosecutor's Office of the Rostov Region. Then he will meet us again and address our problems. So far, we are satisfied. But if the results are unfair, the marchers reserve the right to continue the action in some different format," Valery Dyakonov, the initiator of the action and a deputy of the Zverevo City Duma, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
