Aliev kept in Makhachkala SIZO did not reject advocate

Magomed Aliev, who is kept in SIZO-1 (pre-trial prison) of Makhachkala on suspicion of robbery, said he didn’t refuse from the lawyer Sapiyat Magomedova, said the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Dagestan. Public activists who visited him in the SIZO found scratches on Aliev's body and learnt that in March he was beaten up with truncheons, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 28 Aliev sent an appeal to the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), saying that on March 17 he was beaten up in SIZO-1 of Makhachkala. On June 20, Aliev's advocates said that their client was still exposed to pressure from the SIZO personnel. On June 21, Magomedova appealed to the ICRF and the Prosecutor's Office complaining that Aliev was forced to refuse from her services.

On June 23, members of the POC of Dagestan visited the detainees, kept in SIZO-1, including Magomed Aliev, as Svetlana Isaeva, a member of the POC and the chair of the human rights organization "Mothers of Dagestan for Human Rights", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"When asked whether he was pressed or harassed at the SIZO, Aliev answered in the negative. He said that he had no complaints against the personnel; however, he voiced a desire to cooperate with the lawyer Sapiyat Magomedova," said Isaeva.
