Court's decision to reopen investigation into beating of advocate is still not fulfilled, Sapiyat Magomedova asserts

The Investigating Department of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) for Dagestan has not yet reopened the investigation into the case against policemen, accused of beating Sapiyat Magomedova, an advocate from Khasavyurt. However, more than two months passed since the date, when the court had pronounced the relevant decision. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by the victim herself.

According to Sapiyat Magomedova, on June 17, 2010, she was beaten by two staff members of the OVD (Interior Division). However, the policemen claimed that the advocate had attacked them herself. The investigating authorities have initiated criminal proceedings against both the policemen and advocate Sapiyat Magomedova. Later, the criminal cases were combined into one, and on December 28, 2011, the investigation was closed. On April 2, 2014, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan recognized unlawful the decision to close the criminal proceedings and ordered to reopen the investigation.

According to Sapiyat Magomedova, officials from the Dagestani Investigating Department of the ICRF have told her that they are not aware of the decision of the Dagestani SC.

"On June 18, I went to the Investigating Department to find out about the situation with my case and why I get no notifications on it. To my surprise, the officials of the Investigating Department were not aware of the Court's order," the advocate said.

At present, the "Caucasian Knot" has still no comments from officials of the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan on the resumption of the investigation into the Sapiyat Magomedova's case.
