Political analysts: prosecutor's proposal to sentence Said Amirov to 13 years of imprisonment is unprecedented in Russia for top-ranking officials

At the pleadings, public prosecutor asked to sentence Said Amirov, Mayor of Makhachkala, temporary dismissed from office and accused of plotting a terror act, to unprecedented punishment for top-ranking officials in recent history of Russia. This opinion was expressed by political analysts questioned by the "Caucasian Knot".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 26-27, in Rostov-on-Don, the North-Caucasian District Military Court held the pleadings at the trial in the case against Said Amirov and his nephew Yusup Djaparov. The defendants and their advocates have called on the Court to pronounce the verdict of acquittal. Public prosecutors have asked the Court to sentence Said Amirov to 13 years and Yusup Djaparov to 11 years of imprisonment.

Such a severe punishment for the dismissed Mayor of the city with millions of residents has no precedents in the recent history of Russia. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by political analyst Dmitry Oreshkin.

The political analyst believes in Russia, mayors are mainly prosecuted for political reasons, like, for example, in the case against Dmitry Kuzmin, Mayor of Stavropol. "The same thing has happened to Mr Amirov," the expert has emphasized.
