Armenian policemen suspected of abuse of power at June 23 action

Investigating authorities of Armenia suspect a number of policemen of abuse of office during a protest action in Yerevan, the press centre of the Special Investigative Service of the Republic has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 23 a protest action against price hike on electricity was held in Saryan Street in Yerevan. During the action, protesters clashed with the police. As a result, several dozen activists were detained.

According to the above Special Investigative Service, the check of the actions of the police during the above protest against the increase of electricity tariffs was undertaken because a number of victims have turned to investigative bodies with their complaints.

The check has revealed that after the action, some citizens turned for medical held, saying that they were traumatized by policemen.

In the context of citizens' complaints, a criminal case was opened on abuse of power with use of violence.
