Villagers of Maidanskoe and Balakhani in Dagestan report mass checks and detentions

Starting July 1, checks and mopping-up of the wooded area are undertaken near the villages of Maidanskoe and Balakhani in the Untsukul District of Dagestan, as locals told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. The local ROVD (District Interior Division) explained that they were looking for members of illegal armed formations (IAFs).

As reported by a resident of the Untsukul District of Dagestan, the operation is carried out by law enforcers since early July with the use of aviation.

According to a woman from Maidanskoe, about 3:00 p.m. gunshots were heard behind the village. She added that locals are not against checks and detentions, "if there are those worth detention," but people fear that power agents will burn down the forest.

The Untsukul ROVD has reported that they were looking for IAF members who may supposedly hide there.
