Dagestani resident disappeared after detention by police in Azerbaijan, said his wife

Elbrus Karibov, a native of the Magaramkent District of Dagestan, was detained at the Baku airport on June 21, and still his whereabouts are unknown, said his wife Amina Tkhakakhova. The MIAs of Azerbaijan and Dagestan did not confirm the detention of Elbrus Karibov.

According to a source of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent from law enforcement bodies of Dagestan, Karibov had been put on the operative wanted list as a supposed participant of warfare in Syria.

At the moment of detention at the Baku airport Elbrus Karibov was with his wife and daughter. According to the wife, they came to Baku from Istanbul to treat their daughter. "At registration, my husband was detained; and then they said they would deliver him to the local MNS (Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"). Since then, almost two weeks have elapsed; and I have no news from my husband," said Tkhakakhova.

The woman fears for her husband's life, as she is sure that he may be subjected to pressure from security forces.

Meanwhile, a law enforcement source from the Magaramkent District of Dagestan said that Karibov may be in Syria, as his name is on the list published on August 8, 2013, at one of the websites of those who had left Russia, presumably, to participate in the Syrian conflict.
