"Free Zone": Tbilisi police forces activist with brain concussion out of hospital for interrogation

As reported by Gela Vasadze, the leader of the NGO "Free Zone", in Tbilisi, Lasha Rukhaya, an activist of the NGO, hospitalized with brain concussion during clashes with the police in front of the City Court on July 4, was forced out of hospital, despite his relatives' objections.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 4 the Tbilisi City Court ruled to place Georgy Ugulava, the ex-Mayor of Tbilisi, in custody. Then, a fight burst out near the building of his supporters with the police.

According to Vasadze, at night on Saturday policemen tried to interrogate Rukhaya, who regained consciousness by that moment. However, his relatives did not let the police in, insisting that the questioning should be conducted in the presence of an advocate. However, policemen took the activist away from the clinic.

According to the "Free Zone", policemen brought Rukhaya to a Tbilisi district police station to conduct an interrogation. Doctors assessed his health condition as satisfactory.

Meanwhile, the "United National Movement" demands to institute criminal proceedings against the policemen involved in the incident in front of the courthouse for abuse of power.

Let us remind you that Ugulava was charged with embezzling budget money from the Tbilisi Development Fund in the amount of about 28 million US dollars.
