On June 23-29, nine persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from June 23 to June 29, 2014, at least nine people suffered from the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, including seven casualties and two wounded persons. These are the results of the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes six suspects of involvement into the armed underground – three in Dagestan, two in Chechnya and one in Ingushetia; and one civilian in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

At night on June 23, at the entry to the village of Gekhi, Urus-Martan District of Chechnya, policemen stopped a VAZ-2110 taxi car with two men inside to check documents. In response to the demand to show their IDs, one of them opened fire in the direction of law enforcers and was killed by return fire. The second man tried to escape, but he failed, and, seeing it, triggered an improvised explosive device (IED). Two law enforcers were wounded by the explosion. As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Chechnya, the killed men were pre-identified as Kerim Matsaev, born in 1991, and Ibragim Dubaev, born in 1989. The latter was on the federal wanted list for committing a series of grave and very grave crimes.

On June 28, in the woods in the Sunzha District of Ingushetia, near the border with Chechnya, an armed clash occurred. In the course of the shooting, one member of the armed underground was killed; others managed to escape.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On June 24, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime, earlier introduced in the Gunib District of Dagestan, was cancelled; the armed clashed that caused introduction thereof ended with the death of three and wounding of 10 law enforcers.

On June 25, the city of Derbent was put under the CTO regime. In a private house in Narimanov Street power agents blocked alleged members of illegal armed formations (IAFs). In response to the offer to surrender, one of them opened fire. During the assault of the house, one person was killed. He was identified as Malik Ulubekov, a member of the "Sogratl" militant grouping.

On June 26, in Gabiev Street in Makhachkala, a suspected IAF member was blocked. During a shootout with the police, he was killed. Later, he was identified as Makhach Taimudarov, one of the leaders of the Dagestani underground.

On June 27, the CTO regime was introduced in the village of Zakhit of the Khiv District of Dagestan, where a private house was blocked. The man who was inside refused to surrender and opened fire at power agents. During the armed skirmish the man was killed and later pre-identified as Sirazhdin Velikhanov, a member of the "Tabasaran" militant grouping.

Attacks on civilians

At night on June 27, in the village of Shamilkala, Untsukul district of Dagestan, local Rasul Magomedov, the owner of a hardware store, was shot dead from a submachine gun. He was registered at the police as an adherent of Salafism and had been earlier convicted for illegal arms circulation.

Detentions

On June 22, in the Grozny District of Chechnya, policemen detained a 25-year-old local resident, who, according to law enforcers, had been a member of a militant grouping for several years.

On June 26, near the city of Kislovodsk, Stavropol Territory, armed men in masks, who moved in police cars, kidnapped Ruslan Izrailov, born in 1976, a resident of the village of Mirny. In the evening, his car was found near the DPS (road-and-police service) post in Mirny. On June 27, Ruslan Izrailov was found in the temporary isolation facility of the Kislovodsk city police. As reported by his wife, he was detained on suspicion of illegal arms circulation, allegedly carried on by his car.
