Tbilisi Court fines eight detained participants of protest action in front of City Court
On July 5, in Georgia, the Tbilisi City Court pronounced the decision to impose an administrative penalty in the form of a fine of 100 laris (about 59 US dollars) on each of the eight protestors detained near the courthouse. The detainees attended the protest action held after the arrest of Gigi Ugulava, former Mayor of Tbilisi. They were found guilty of disorderly conduct near the courthouse.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia, on July 4, eight people, who had organized a scuffle with policemen, were detained in front of the Tbilisi City Court. The clashes occurred after the Court issued a warrant for the arrest of Gigi Ugulava, former Mayor of Tbilisi.
"Actually, I have expressed my protest, since I sought that a stranger whose detention I witnessed should have been set free. The Court found my protest to be too loud and fined me 100 laris," said Kote Gabashvili, a member of the "United National Movement" Party, a former Georgian Ambassador to Italy, who was involved in the incident.
According to Kote Gabashvili, he is going to pay the fine, and he will not appeal against the Court's decision, the "InterPressNews" reports.
The information about the attitudes of the other fined persons is still unavailable.
