In Volgograd Region, Ukrainian refugees demand to clarify their status

Ukrainian refugees, accommodated in the Volgograd Region, have filed an appeal to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, where the forced migrants raised issues on their employment and repatriation. The refugees ask the Russian State Duma to define their status and explain it to them.

The Ukrainian refugees accommodated in Volgograd told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they sent their appeal to the Russian State Duma by email.

"At present, more than 4000 refugees stay in the Volgograd Region. We were rendered the warmest and heartiest welcome. However, we face a number of acute problems," refugees stated in their appeal released on June 29.

According to the Ukrainian refugees, for them, "it is difficult to define the status, and a lot of points remain unclear."

"The major part of people hoped to go back home, and some of the statuses do not always provide refugees with a chance to return home," the Ukrainian refugees note in their appeal.

They explain that in case if a Ukrainian passport bears a mark made by another state, it ceases to be valid in Ukraine. Moreover, the refugees believe that the mark of the Russian Federation "would become a kind of a 'black mark' for a person."

In their appeal, the Ukrainian refugees also ask questions concerning the procedures to restore documents and describe the issue of social benefits for pensioners, persons with disabilities, and other categories of citizens.
