In Chechnya, people expel family members of suspected policeman's killer from their village, district administration asserts

Relatives of Khusein Dakhtaev, who was suspected of the shooting of Akhmed Dopaev, a staff member of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and who was killed on July 3 in Grozny, were expelled from the village of Goi-Chu of the Urus-Martan District of Chechnya, where they used to live. According to the district administration, the decision was made and pronounced at the gathering of villagers of Goi-Chu.

Some of the villagers, who lived in the same village with the Dakhtaev family, believe the decision to expel from the village the family members of the man suspected of the murder was fair. However, some other villagers do not agree with the decision.

"Why his father, his uncle or his brothers should suffer now? Meanwhile, they are also punished by the fact that they were not allowed to bury the body of their man. I am surprised when people say that is the way our ancestors used to do and that it complies with the Sharia. Then, why shouldn't we deal with thieves and corrupted officials in the government in accordance with the Sharia to cut off their hands?" says a resident of the Urus-Martan District, who preferred to remain anonymous.

The eviction of the family members of the men suspected of killing the policeman is a flagrant violation of the applicable law. This opinion has been expressed by a leader of one of the Chechen public organizations, who also preferred to remain anonymous.

According to him, the decision of the gathering of the Goi-Chu villagers to expel the Dakhtaev family from the village was influenced by the position of the Chechen leaders and law enforcement bodies.
