ICRF: Stavropol policeman breaks detainee's jaw

In Stavropol, a court sanctioned arrest of the agent of the patrol-and-post service (PPS), suspected of abuse of office. The policeman broke a jaw of a detained young man, said the Investigating Department (ID) for the Stavropol Territory of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

According to investigators, at night on June 9, while patrolling the "Victory" Park in Stavropol the policeman approached a 25-year-old young man who was drinking alcohol.

After checking his IDs, the PPS agent brought the young man to the police station, where he slapped him on the face with a fist, inflicting an open bilateral fracture of the lower jaw, the ICRF reports.

After suspecting the policeman of abuse of office, investigators initiated his arrest by the court; and on June 25 the court did it, as reported by the website of the ID of the ICRF for the Stavropol Territory.

The criminal case is investigated under point "a", Part 3, Article 286, of the Russian Criminal Code (abuse of power). This article provides for the punishment of imprisonment for a term of three to ten years.
