Rally in Sochi blames officials for non-fulfilment of pre-Olympic promises

The participants of the citizens' rally, held on July 19 near the Olympic Park in Sochi, stated that officials failed to fulfil their promises given before the Olympic Games to residents of the Sochi settlement-micro-district Mirny. They said that because of the Olympic facilities built in the Imereti Lowland their houses are regularly flooded.

"Earlier we had been never flooded. Now, it happens constantly even after an ordinary rain. We have to call employees of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) all the time. It is impossible to walk or drive to the seashore. Fences are everywhere; and everywhere they claim money for parking. Public transport has stopped operating. Our settlement is destroyed and abandoned; while local authorities find it unnecessary to respond to our complaints," Olga Potapova, a resident of the house in Trostnikovaya Street, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

At the rally, residents of Mirny decided to set up an initiative group for holding further protest actions, said Marina Ovanesyan, a resident of Mirny.
