On July 14-20, one person fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from July 14 to July 20, 2014, the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus claimed at least one human life. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

In Dagestan, an attack of alleged members of the armed underground resulted in a loss of a local.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On July 14, a large number of power agents and military equipment was brought to the village of Gimry, Untsukul District of Dagestan. Law enforcers surrounded the village and carried out targeted checks during the day. According to villagers, two or three houses were searched. As of 9:00 p.m. Moscow time of the same day, the cordon of the village was removed; and none of the residents was detained.

Attacks on civilians

On July 17, at about 4:00 a.m., unidentified persons opened fire, near the mosque in the village of Gotsatl, Khunzakh District of Dagestan, at a local resident Omar Anasov, when he was on his way to the mosque for his morning prayer. Two masked men shot Anasov dead right at the entrance to the mosque – over 17 bullet wounds were found in his body; he died on the spot. Earlier, Omar had worked for the Dagestani Department for the Khunzakh District of the Russian Federal Service for Drugs Supervision, but seven years ago he left his job and went in for farming. Anasov was a religious man and a follower of the "traditional Islam". The main version of the murder, considered by investigators, is an attack of IAF members.

Detentions

In the evening on July 13, inNalchik, policemen detained two men – residents of Kabardino-Balkaria and StavropolTerritory, from whom they confiscated pistols, a rifle and hand grenades. Operative agents stopped a BMW-X5 car driven by a 28-year-old resident of Kislovodsk. When policemen approached the car, the driver shot at them from a pistol. Inside, policemen found a Makarov pistol with seven cartridges, an eight-cartridge revolver, an RGD-5 grenade with a fuse, and a polymer bag with a substance looking like narcotic drug. During the inspection of the car, which belonged to its passenger, policemen confiscated a hunting rifle and an RGN hand grenade with a fuse. This information arrived on July 14.

On July 14, information appeared that on the eve, in the outskirts of the village of Mesker-Yurt, Shali District of Chechnya, policemen detained a 39-year-old local resident, whose personal search revealed cartridges for automatic firearms. As reported by the Chechen police, the detainee was placed under home arrest.

On July 13, when checking the car belonging to Ruslan Ionov, a resident of the city of Ust-Djeguta in Karachay-Cherkessia, law enforcers found a battle pistol. Ionov was detained. At the court hearing on selecting his pre-trial restraint Ionov said that the pistol was not his claiming that it was planted into his car at detention. Also, he said that he was tortured and forced to self-incrimination. This information arrived on July 17.

On July 15, the Investigating Department for Chechnya of the ICRF reported that villagers of Katar-Yurt, Achkhoy-Martan District of Chechnya, were suspected of aiding members of illegal armed formations (IAFs). According to investigators, this May local residents, aged 20 and 31, received from militants 10,000 roubles to buy foodstuffs for members of the armed underground. A criminal case was initiated against them under Part 5, Article 33, and Part 2, Article 208, of the Russian Criminal Code (aiding members of illegal armed formations).
