Prosecution demands 18 years of imprisonment for Zeinalov
Today, the prosecutor has asked the court to appoint 18 years in prison for Orkhan Zeinalov, a native of Azerbaijan, accused of killing Yegor Scherbakov, a resident of the Moscow district of Western Biryulyovo.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the courtroom that Prosecutor Vladimir Vedernikov has added that Zeinalov should spend 10 years in a high security prison, and the remaining eight years – in a colony.
The defendant refused to participate in oral arguments, by reserving the right to the last plea.
In its turn, Zeinalov's defence stated during today's debate that the defendant is innocent and should be acquitted. According to the advocate Victor Anikushkin, the investigation was conducted in an "ugly" manner; while the eyewitness of the murder, Scherbakov's girlfriend Ksenia Popova gave contradictory testimonies.
The 25-year-old Yegor Scherbakov died from a knife wound at night on October 10, 2013. According to investigators, he was stabbed during a fight by Orkhan Zeinalov, but the latter refused to plead guilty. Scherbakov's murder sparked mass riots on October 13, 2013.
