Coast reinforcement resumed on beaches of Imereti Lowland in Sochi

Sochi has begun reinforcing the embankment in the Imereti Lowland. The structures, which are washed off during every violent storm, are being built for six years, said Natalia Kalinovskaya, the head of the Comradeship of Public Government (known as TOS) "Psou".

According to her story, the works began on July 1 – "the beaches are full of tractors, MAZ and KamAZ trucks; the construction is underway, which frightens away the available scanty tourists," Natalia Kalinovskaya told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The chair of the TOS has reminded that Sochi residents, environmentalists, architects and scientists had opposed the construction of hydraulic structures in the area between the Mzymta and Psou Rivers, including the Olympic seaport for receiving goods and an embankment, which is destroyed by every storm.

"Everything done incorrectly for almost six years is now felt. Billions of roubles have been wasted. Now we need to throw more money into the sea by the construction, and empty the budget by dispersing the tourists, who come to Sochi to bathe in the sea and sunbathe, but not to lie under excavator buckets, sniffing petrol and listening to the roar of engines," said Kalinovskaya.
