Doctors in Grozny decide not to drive the beaten girl out of coma

The health condition of the 4-year-old girl beaten in Grozny and hospitalized in Children's Hospital No. 2 of the capital of Chechnya remains grave, said Ruslan Ganaev, the chief physician of the hospital.

"She is in coma and in the intensive care ward of the hospital," said Ruslan Ganaev. According to his story, in the morning, given the state of the child, it was decided not to remove the drug, which causes her artificial sleep.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the girl was brought to the emergency department of the above hospital on July 19 in an unconscious state. Her 24-year-old stepmother was detained on suspicion of beating the girl.

Cases, when stepparents apply violence to their foster children periodically occur in the republic, locals report.

"The point is that according to our customs, children should remain with their fathers," said Sultanbek Kadiev, the Children Ombudsman in the ChechenRepublic, adding that those traditions formed in the times, when women did not work and could not maintain themselves and their children.

"Now the time is different; and some women earn far more than men. However, the judges pass their rulings not under the law, but according to customs. Such rulings are not in the children's interests," said the Ombudsman.
