Dagestan: Irganai residents refuse sending their children to school until they receive compensations for flooded land

In Dagestan, residents of the villagers of Irganai of the Untsukul District demand from the Dagestani authorities to pay compensation for the land flooded during the construction of hydroelectric power plant (HPP). The villagers decided to send their children to school and kindergarten only when the leader of Dagestan meets members of the village Jamaat.

The decision was made at the gathering held on August 1 in front of the main mosque of the village after the Friday prayerthe "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by members of the village Jamaat. The villagers have also sent open letters on behalf of the village Jamaat to Dagestani leader Ramazan Abdulatipov and Magomedgadji Zainulabidov, his authorized representative in the mountainous zone.

The open letters state that at present, 238 families are to be resettledThe villagers ask Ramazan Abdulatipov and Magomedgadji Zainulabidov to assist in includinthe flood zone of the IrganaHPP in the list of facilities funded by the federal target programmes.

Members of the Irganai Jamaat want to meet the Dagestani leader to tell him about the situation in the village, said Gamzat Gamzatov, one of the participants of the gathering, the leader of the NGO "Equity in Society".
