Rally of Kumyk people demands to prevent redistribution of land in Dagestan

At the all-Dagestani gathering, more than 150 members of public organizations and rural communities have adopted a resolution with the demand to cancel the land reform in Dagestan. Participants of the gathering fear that as a result of the redistribution of land ownership, Kumyk people may be deprived of lands of their traditionally habitation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 1, the joint meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Council of the Kumyk People was attended by members of the Dagestani regional public organization "Splochyonnost" (Unity), the Council of Elders of Kumyk people, and the non-governmental organization for the protection of the rights of deported peoples "Anji". The participants of the meeting have stated that the Dagestani authorities ignore the interests of the indigenous inhabitants of the plain land.

According to Absalyutdin Murzaev, Chair of the Council of Elders of Kumyk People, the all-Dagestani gathering held on November 4 was attended by more than 150 people.

One of the participants of the all-Dagestani gathering has said that Dagestan faces re-distribution of republic-owned plain land plots, including land plots of distant-pasture cattle rearing and land plots under state-owned unitary enterprises.

Dagestani leader Ramazan Abdulatipov sees the solution of the land problems "in the technical plane," despite the fact that they are connected with "two very explosive spheres", including the interethnic relations and the norms of Islam.
