Azerbaijan: investigator Safarov goes on hunger strike

The hunger strike is held in protest against the actions of the employees of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Azerbaijan, said Rufat Safarov, an investigator of the Zardab District Prosecutor's Office. According to his story, his office and rented apartment were searched without a court sanction.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the above office and apartment of Rufat Safarov, an investigator of the Zardab District Prosecutor's Office, were searched on December 21. He believes that they were caused by his resignation statement in protest against the policy of the Azerbaijani government.

According to Rufat Safarov, during searches, they confiscated his personal computer and documents. Also the GPO employees studied SMS-messages of his mobile phone, and information about his incoming and outgoing calls.

"I demanded to show an official document, the judgment that authorizes a search. No documents were presented. I was just told that the searches were conducted on the order of their top managers," said Safarov.

According to his story, by means of his hunger strike, he seeks to "force the leaders of the GPO to give a legal assessment of the actions of its employees, who conducted searches without a search warrant."
