Geidar Djemal’s commemoration party believes his works need further study
More than one hundred people attended the party in memory of the Russian religious figure Geidar Djemal. They called his death a great loss for Muslims and the whole society and expressed confidence that the importance of Djemal's intellectual heritage should be still assessed.
Geidar Djemal, the Chairman of the Russia’s Islamic Committee, a Deputy of the National Assembly of the Russian Federation, died on December 5, 2016, at the age of 69. He was a well-known Islamic thinker and the founder of the metaphysical school of radical transcendentalism.
Mr Djemal had repeatedly given his comments to the "Caucasian Knot". In particular, he analyzed the activities of the terrorist organizations "Imarat Kavkaz" and "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia.
The party in Djemal's memory took place on March 24 in the Library of Foreign Literature in Moscow with the participation of journalists, public figures and creative intellectuals from Azerbaijan, Austria and Arab countries.
In the opinion of Nafigulla Ashirov, an Islamic leader and the Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of the Asian Part of the Russian Federation, Russia had not fully utilized Djemal’s potentials.
Also, Magdi Kamalov, the Director of the OJSC “Svoboda Slova” (Freedom of Speech), the founder of the “Chernovik” (Draft) newspaper and the brother of Khadjimurad Kamalov, the editor-in-chief of the paper, who was killed in 2011, has come to pay tribute to Geidar Djemal.
At the party, the journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova presented a film about Djemal.
