Baku: religious activist Ismailov arrested for a month

The court found the Azerbaijani religious activist Revan Ismailov guilty of disobeying the police and administratively arrested him for 30 days. Ismailov has treated the judgement as political.

Yalchin Imanov, an advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that policemen asked Ismailov why he had attended the sessions on the case of Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the "Muslim Unity" movement, and why he had supported him.

According to the advocate, policemen have stated that they have stopped him on October 3, because his beard seemed suspicious to them.

"Revan said that he was persecuted for his participation in protests," said Imanov, adding that the defence intends to appeal against the court's judgement.
