Family members of girl who suffered in Chechnya succeed in dismissal of surgeon

A surgeon was promoted in spite of the court's prohibition to work as a medical officer, since a three-year-old patient got disability. After relatives of the disabled child filed a complaint, the surgeon was dismissed from hospital.

On October 20, 2016, in Chechnya, a court sentenced child surgeon Oksana Khalukhoeva to two years of restriction of freedom with a one-year ban on medical activities. The court recognized that in 2013, Oksana Khalukhoeva failed to provide the necessary medical treatment for a three-year-old patient, who as a result became disabled.

After the child's relatives appealed to the Prosecutor of Chechnya, a check was carried out which confirmed that Oksana Khalukhoeva not only continued to work in the hospital, despite the court's prohibition, but also got an appointment as the chief of the hospital ward. This has been learned today by the "Caucasian Knot" by a member of the Prosecutor's Office for Chechnya.

"The Ministry for Public Health organized a service check. On November 7, Oksana Khalukhoeva was dismissed from her position," reported an official from the Prosecutor's Office.

The girl's family members tried to achieve justice, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a female relative of the child. "Nobody wanted someone's blood. We just wanted to achieve justice. <...> Of course, the fact that the child surgeon was dismissed from her job will not restore the health state of our girl. However, that can save other children from similar fate. And in that context, we got moral satisfaction," said the woman.
