On March 2, immediately after his release from jail, Mekhman Guseinov, an Azerbaijani blogger, took part in commemoration of the assassinated journalist, Elmar Guseinov. He recalled that he was arrested two years ago after the same rally.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 3, 2017, Mekhman Guseinov was sentenced to two years in prison on charges of defamation.

Once back at large, Guseinov first visited the grave of his mother, who died while he was in jail.

After that, the blogger went to an action in memory of the journalist, Elmar Guseinov, held on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of his assassination.

There, Isa Gambar, the head of the Centre for the National Strategic Thought, accused the Azerbaijani authorities, who, in his opinion, wanted to "silence the brave journalist," of killing Elmar Guseinov. "If this were not the case, then, this crime would have been solved within these 14 years," Mr Gambar has stated.

Mekhman Guseinov, a blogger, has recalled that he was arrested exactly two years ago, the day after he spoke at the grave of Elmar Guseinov. "I was released today in the morning; and I promised to myself that today I would speak not about myself, but about Elmar," the blogger said, noting that he would continue following "the way of Elmar."
