In Derbent, hunger-strikers need medical help

In Derbent, the health states of both participants of the hunger strike have deteriorated sharply at night. However, the women refused to be hospitalized, reported a female relative of one of the hunger-strikers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 24, mothers of detained Islam Barzukaev and Gasan Kurbanov declared a hunger strike in front of the police building in Derbent with the demand to release their sons. On July 2, the hunger-strikers agreed to have a meeting with the Dagestani Ombudsman. He promised to take the detainees' case under his control.

Islam Barzukaev, Gasan Kurbanov, and Mizarali Mizaraliev are suspected of illicit trafficking in explosives and arms. They said they signed confessions under pressure and threats.

According to Zainab Rabadanova, a sister of one of the hunger-strikers, on June 3, a young man approached Elena Barzukaeva and "provoked her." "He voiced unpleasant things. Elena even called the police, since she thought he could attack her. All that affected her health. At night, she suffered from high blood pressure, and an ambulance was called for her," Zainab Rabadanova reported.

Doctors intended to take Elena Barzukaeva to hospital, but she refused, noted Zainab Rabadanova.
Shaganaz Rabadanova, another participant of the hunger strike, also felt bad, and the doctors recommended her to stop the hunger strike. However, the women are not going to stop their protest action and intend to continue it when they feel better.
