Azerbaijan states sniper shelling in conflict zone

During the past 24 hours, in the Karabakh conflict zone, positions of Azerbaijani militaries were shelled for 23 times, the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 9, Azerbaijan reported 20 shelling attacks committed during the past 24 hours.

On September 9-10, the ceasefire regime on the troops contact line was violated for 23 times; the positions of the Azerbaijani Army were shelled by using sniper rifles, the Azerbaijani MoD has reported on its website today. The shelling was conducted from the territories treated as its occupied areas by Azerbaijan, states the message.

By 9:00 a.m. Moscow time today, the websites of the MoDs of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh contained no comments on the above statement about shelling.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties agreed on the ceasefire. Despite the agreement, over two years, the parties claimed daily shelling attacks in the conflict zone, as it follows from the infographic "Karabakh after the truce: a two-year war" prepared by the "Caucasian Knot". After the meeting of officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia and Azerbaijan, held on June 20, Azerbaijan stated an almost complete cessation of shelling attacks; however, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh continues to register violations of the ceasefire.
