Stepanakert roundtable voices prerequisites for unification of Karabakh and Armenia

The political situation in Armenia is favourable for unification with Nagorno-Karabakh, state participants of a roundtable held in Stepanakert on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the reunification resolution of the Supreme Council of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR) and the National Council of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Gegam Bagdasaryan, President of the Stepanakert Press Club, notes that the purpose of the roundtable is to create a "public consensus" around the topic.

"The national liberation struggle of Artsakh (the self-name of Nagorno-Karabakh, note of the 'Caucasian Knot'), which was resumed in 1988, contributed to the revival of all Armenians," said Masis Mailyan, Nagorno-Karabakh Minister of Foreign Affairs.

"The Armenian people have the right to own land and live in their homeland. This is our internal national self-determination, which is above all international norms," said political analyst Alexander Kanyanyan.

Political analyst Ara Papyan believes that the decision of December 1, 1989, is "a sufficient basis for the proclamation of United Armenia."

Let us remind you that the settlement of the Karabakh conflict is based on the "Madrid principles", which Baku accepts with the proviso that Nagorno-Karabakh can only be a part of Azerbaijan.
