Nagorno-Karabakh schoolchildren stop protest action against small HPPs
In Karvachar, senior schoolchildren stopped their protest action against the construction of small hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) and announced their intention to create monitoring groups on the environmental safety of HPPs in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that senior schoolchildren of the Karvachar school organized a rally in support of activist Alexander Kananyan, who demanded to stop the construction of small HPPs in Nagorno-Karabakh. On January 29, the schoolchildren refused to attend classes.
On January 30, the schoolchildren of Karvachar continued their strike. On the same day, they had a meeting with Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsman Artak Beglaryan. After the meeting, David Yegiazaryan, a teacher of history from the Karvachar school, wrote on his Facebook page that the schoolchildren stopped their protest action and decided to start attending classes.
"The senior schoolchildren decided to create several monitoring groups which would consist of schoolchildren solely and perform different functions, including monitoring the ecology, state of nature, and environmental standards in the operation of small HPPs," David Yegiazaryan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
