Court supports lawyer Gasanov demand for clarification from Azerbaijani Bar Association
At its session considering a new lawsuit of Alaif Gasanov, a lawyer, against the Bar Association of Azerbaijan, the Baku Administrative Court has demanded explanations from the Bar concerning the reinstatement of the plaintiff at work. The lawyer is sure that he was expelled from the Bar on political reasons.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 6, 2014, Alaif Gasanov was found guilty by the court under the article of "Insult" and sentenced to 240 hours of community works. The Baku Court of Appeal dismissed Gasanov's complaint; and the verdict entered into force. This fact was used by the Bar Association as the ground to exclude Gasanov from the Bar, as a result of which he lost his right to practice advocacy.
Alaif Gasanov said that he had made efforts to restore his membership at the Bar, but in vain; therefore, he decided to sue the Bar again.
"I was expelled from the Bar not for disciplinary violations, but under a far-fetched politically motivated criminal case," Gasanov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The session of the Baku Administrative Court on Gasanov lawsuit against the Bar was held on February 18 under the chairing Judge Elnur Aliev.
According to Gasanov, the Court has granted his motion to send a request to the Bar; therefore, the hearing was adjourned until March 30.
