Azerbaijani opposition journalist reports preparation of attempt on him

Tyurkel Alisoy has said that Dutch law enforcement agencies have taken his family under guard in connection with information about the preparation of the assassination attempts on political emigrants from Azerbaijan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Tyurkel Alisoy (Azerturk), an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), had been repeatedly administratively arrested in Azerbaijan after participating in oppositional protests in 2013-2015. In 2016, he went abroad and now collaborates with the opposition TV channel "TuranTV".

According to Mr Alisoy, the Dutch police and prosecutor's office reported that they had received information from a source in Azerbaijan about the preparation of an attempt on him.

"Prosecutors have stated that they are investigating the case based on the information received by the Dutch prosecutor's office about the threat to our security. They told me that my children and family members are now under special control and in no danger," the "Turan" News Agency quoted Alisoy as saying on February 21.

According to a Dutch police source, apart from Alisoy, an attempt was prepared on nine other political emigrants from Azerbaijan, the website of the "Dosh" magazine reports.
