A militant of 76 came to surrender in Chechnya
Today, the "Interfax" was told at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) that Chechnya has broken the age record among the participants of illegal armed formations (IAF), who have voluntarily surrendered to the law enforcement bodies.
According to a MIA's representative, "a local citizen of 76 has come to the Grozny District Department of Interior ("ROVD") and told that in 1998 he voluntarily joined an illegal armed formation under command of Zelimkhan Yandarbiev and was given a Kalashnikov. He asserts that two months later Yandarbiev took the machinegun back since the militant did not take any active part in the operations of the IAF."
Zelimkhan Yandarbiev, one of the leaders of Chechen militants, perished in Qatar in 2004. Mr. Yandarbiev stood for creating a caliphate from the Black to the Caspian Seas based on the Islamic state of Dagestan and Chechnya.
