Newspaper run with materials on Alkhanov's jubilee confiscated and destroyed in Chechnya
The Prosecutor's Office of the Chechen Republic is holding an examination on the occasion of confiscation of the whole run of the "Daimokhk" (Fatherland) newspaper. The fact has become known from a source in the Chechen law enforcement bodies. A respective statement was made by the head (president) of the Republic Alu Alkhanov.
"The reason for the check of the legality of actions undertaken by the Ministry for National Policy, Information and Print was an incident with the "Daimokhk" newspaper (the only one in the Republic published in the Chechen language)," the source from the power agencies has told. "On January 19, a number of articles dedicated to the 50th birthday of president of Chechnya Alu Alkhanov were published in No. 14 of the paper."
In the opinion of one of local observers, the accident is another evidence of the contradictions existing within the leadership of the Republic between Alkhanov and Chechen premier Kadyrov.
