Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsman accuses officials of deaths of 33 civilians

The General Prosecutor's Office of Nagorno-Karabakh has started to investigate a case on the deaths and capture of dozens of civilians during the combat actions in the autumn of 2020. The tragedy occurred, because the local authorities failed to carry out the evacuation of civilians, the Ombudsman claims.

A criminal case was opened after a report by the office of the Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsman, which claimed negligence on the part of officials responsible for the evacuation of civilians. According to the Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsman, as a result, 33 civilians did not have enough time to leave their homes and were killed during the attacks of the Azerbaijani troops, and more than ten persons went missed.

The office of the Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsman has transferred to the General Prosecutor's Office all the materials collected about the situation, the "Sputnik Armenia" reports today.

The General Prosecutor's Office reported on the institution of a case under the article of negligence. The situation concerned the villages and towns that came under the control of Azerbaijan as a result of the autumn escalation of the Karabakh conflict, the "News.am" reports.
