Abkhazia has held parliamentary elections

In Abkhazia, on March 4, elections to parliament took place. 108 candidates ran for 35 places. In 17 out of 35 constituencies of Abkhazia repeated voting will take place.

On behalf of the European Union, Germany, who is now chairing the EU, has officially declared today that it does not recognize the elections as legitimate, the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" informs.

The text of the application runs: "The European Union confirms its complete support of territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders and emphasizes that it does not recognize the legality of the so-called parliamentary elections held on February 4, 2007, in Abkhazia (Georgia), same as of the municipal elections held on February 11, 2007."

The international observers have informed that the elections passed according to democratic principles and without any obvious violations.
