Council of Europe has again accused Russia of tortures in Chechnya
The Committee of the Council of Europe for Prevention of Torture has published another statement on Russia. It runs that inmates are tortured in Chechnya; people are often illegally kept in custody. The document states that Russian authorities are inefficient in considering complaint on the workers of law enforcement bodies and militaries. "The general situation is as follows: any detainee who fails to confess of the crime wanted by the investigation is under as threat of inhuman treatment," the statement emphasizes.
The document assigns three months to Russia for elimination of violation. The members of the Committee hope to see an improved situation with their own eyes during the next visit.
The statement has been made on the totals of two visits to Chechnya made in 2006, the Reuters reports.
