FSB Department: threat of terror acts persists in Kabardino-Balkaria
The Government House of Kabardino-Balkaria has held a briefing on the outcomes of the activities of the Anti-Terrorist Commission.
Sergey Ushakov, Head of the FSB (Federal Security Bureau) of the Russian Federation (RF) for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has reported that operative activities of power agencies resulted in weakening the terrorists' base in North Caucasus. Militants suffered a serious blow, their organization and managerial structures were broken, over 120 most dangerous militants were liquidated, including 35 commanders, and over 300 terrorist acts were prevented.
In the South Federal District, a total of 546 persons were amnestied, including 15 KBR citizens.
In 2006, not a single terror act was admitted.
In the opinion of the FSB Department Head for Kabardino-Balkaria, the terror threat has not been lifted completely; therefore, special attention should be given to anti-terror protection of the places, where masses of population are gathering, hydro-engineering constructions and the enterprise, which use aggressive, toxic and radioactive substances in their production cycles.
