Leader of Chechen separatists killed in Dagestan
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan has informed today that Ruslan Bashaev, commander of an illegal armed formation of the Central Front of Chechnya, was killed today in the town of Khasavyurt.
The special operation was held jointly by the regiments of the MIA of Dagestanа and the Department of the FSB (Federal Security Bureau) for the Republic. No details of the operation were disclosed.
A source in the law enforcement bodies has informed that Bashaev, 28, operated in the Khasavyurt, Kazbekovsk and Novolak Districts, funding flows went to militants via him. Bashaev was a close relative of the field commander Suleiman Elmurzaev, Commander of the Central Front of Chechnya, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has informed earlier that Elmurzaev was killed on January 3 in the capital of Dagestan in a skirmish with militiamen.
