Georgian village cut off from the outside world by landslide

The only road leading to the high-mountainous Georgian village of Omalo has been blocked by a landslide.

In Tusheti, heavy rains led to a landslide on the Pshaveli-Abano-Omalo highway, which caused the road was blocked, the Georgian Department of Highways said on its website in the evening on July 9. "All types of traffic are prohibited in the road section from the 8th to 72nd kilometres," the website says.

The above highway is located in the high-mountainous region of Tusheti and leads to the village of Omalo, located on the territory of the Tusheti National Park. It is the only road connecting the village with the main city of Kakheti – Telavi. The total length of the road, which is open only from May to October, and during the remaining six months is considered impassable, is 72 kilometres, the “travelgeorgia.ru” has reported earlier.
