Two natives of Chechnya charged in case of Basaev’s attack on federal troops

A case against Aslanbek and Salambek Idalov brothers, accused of banditry and an attack on the Russian federal troops in the Shelkovsky District of Chechnya in 1999, has been submitted to the court.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 30, 2020, it became known about the detention in Chechnya of Aslanbek Idalov and Salambek Idalov, two suspected participants of an attack on the Russian federal troops in 1999.

The militants led by Shamil Basaev and Emir Khattab attacked a convoy of Russian federal troops on October 4, 1999. According to the law enforcement bodies, the terrorists set up an ambush near the railway station, killed 15 soldiers, and wounded 28 others.

According to the investigators’ version, in September 1999, the defendants joined a militant grouping led by Shamil Basaev and Khattab. On October 4, 1999, being members of the militant grouping, the defendants committed an armed attack on the federal troops in the area of the village of Chervlyonnaya in the Shelkovsky District of Chechnya.

Let us remind you that on February 4, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia reported about the transfer to court of a case against a resident of Chechnya, accused of participation in the militant grouping led by Shamil Basaev and the armed attack on Budyonnovsk in 1995. On June 25, a court in Rostov-on-Don announced that another resident of Chechnya was recognized as a participant of the attack of the Shamil Basaev’s militants on Pskov paratroopers in 2000.
