Party in power and opposition in Georgia cannot agree on the country's accession to NATO
In the evening on February 23, at the meeting of the president of Georgia with representatives of Georgian mass media in Tbilisi's Sacrebulo (self-ruling body), M. Saakashvili stated that "certain citizens of the country who stand against Georgia's accession to NATO lack wisdom."
"Some of our fellow citizens have grown no wise. That they have no conscience, it's another point. One can be conscienceless but wise," the president declared answering a journalist's request to comment on the fact that representatives of some Georgian opposition parties stood against the country's accession to NATO at the background of unsolved problems with conflict-settling in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the "New Region" Agency reports.
We remind you that President of Georgia has recently announced the exact time of the country's accession to the North-Atlantic Alliance - year 2009. On February 22, Georgiy Bokeria, deputy chair of the Legal Committee of the Parliament of Georgia and Deputy from the ruling party, called the political parties of the country to express their position on the issue of Georgia's membership in NATO, the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" reports.
