Azerbaijani advocate claims being attacked in courthouse

The police began to check a complaint filed by advocate Elchin Sadygov, representing the interests of the injured party in a case on the murder, committed, according to the investigators’ version, by General Rovshan Akperov. The advocate claims that a son of the defendant tried to beat him in the building of the Baku Military Court.

“Yesterday (on September 1, – note of the ‘Caucasian Knot), I was asking witnesses the questions in the hall of the Baku Military Court. My questions irritated Rovshan Akperov. After the court hearing, on the third floor of the administrative building of the Baku Military Court, Telman Akperov, a son of Rovshan Akperov, blocked my way. He tried to hit me. His blows did not reach me, since a man who was nearby stood between us,” Elchin Sadygov told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

In connection with the incident, the advocate appealed to the President of Azerbaijan, the General Prosecutor, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), and the Bar Association. “The reaction came from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. They called me and offered to come to the 27th department of the Yasamal District Police Department of Baku. I gave a written testimony, in which I reported the details of the attack on me. I hope that the case will be fairly investigated and the guilty person will be punished,” the advocate noted.
