Court refuses to satisfy the libel suit against Azerbaijani blogger Guseinov

The material, in which the son of Azerbaijani ex-minister of transport saw slander, was posted from a fake profile that had nothing to do with Mekhman Guseinov, the court has concluded. Guseinov called the court's decision to be a precedent.

"The lawsuit alleged that photos of expensive cars owned by Anar Mamedov in London were disseminated from the Facebook profile of 'Mehman Huseynov'. I have nothing to do with this profile," Mekhman Guseinov has stated.

He does not know who had decided to use his name for spreading the material discrediting Mamedov. "My fans could have done it too. But it could also be an intruder who wanted to set me up. Our investigations about officials' luxurious life irritate many," the blogger has noted.

He did not rule out that the "real reason for punishing him" was his investigation about Anar Mamedov's father-in-law – the former Minister of Agriculture, Geidar Asadov.

Let us note here that Anar Mamedov earlier filed lawsuits against media. Thus, in January 2012, the court obliged the "Azadlyg" and "Eni Musavat" editions to pay 4000 manats (USD 5000) each to the businessman, Anar Mamedov, under his honour and dignity defamation lawsuit.
