Rauf Arashukov goes on hunger strike in SIZO

Rauf Arashukov, a former senator from Karachay-Cherkessia, went on a hunger strike in a SIZO (pre-trial prison) with the demand to let him call his relatives and be visited by them, his advocate reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that according to the investigators’ version, Raul Arashukov instructed his son to organize the murders of Aslan Zhukov, the deputy chair of the movement “Adyge-Khase”, and Fral Shebzukhov, an adviser to the leader of Karachay-Cherkessia. In turn, Rauf Arashukov ordered top-ranking law enforcers not to investigate the murder of Aslan Zhukov. Investigators united the criminal proceedings in the cases against the Arashukov brothers and three law enforcers, and they became defendants in the united case on a criminal community.

On September 27, Rauf Arashukov began his hunger strike, and starting from today, he refused to drink water, says one of his advocates. “Rauf Arashukov went on the hunger strike, because, despite the investigator’s permission for relatives’ visits and permission from the court to make phone calls, the administration of the ‘Lefortovo’ SIZO does not allow visits and phone calls,” reported the Rauf Arashukov’s advocate as quoted by the “Interfax”.

According to the advocate, Rauf Arashukov has been transferred to a separate cell in the SIZO.
